Modern Ancient Care
What’s your go-to “self care” routine?
For years, my pampering menu was limited: an afternoon nap or a massage. Sometimes a delicious cheeseburger. Actually quite often, it was the cheeseburger.
I’m branching out and trying new things. Here are the options I’ve been exploring lately.
Sound Baths
Achieve inner peace through soundwaves created by crystal or Tibetan singing bowls. The vibrations can synchronize brainwaves, calm the nervous system, and induce a deep state of relaxation.
Cacao Ceremonies
The power of chocolate. The goal of a cacao ceremony is to connect with your emotions and others as you follow this ancient ritual. They usually are coupled with a sound bath, yoga, breath work and/or a guided meditation.
Salt Rooms
Salt therapy proponents enjoy improved breathing, stress reduction, an immunity boost, and improved skin. Active salt rooms are ones where salt particles are circulated in the air, and passive rooms are climate controlled spaces with large amounts of Dead Sea or Himalayan salt that give you a place to recharge.
Ecstatic Dance
Dancer Gabrielle Roth overcame depression through her exploration of movement, giving birth to the modern ecstatic dance movement. The events are both judgement- and substance-free places where free movement and amazing music work together.
